The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is teaming up with the World Bank Group, the African Union (AU), and the Tanzanian government to host the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit.
This pivotal event will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on January 27-28, 2025. The summit aims to accelerate electricity access across Africa, addressing one of the continent’s most pressing challenges.
Mission 300: A Bold Initiative
Launched in April 2024, Mission 300 is an ambitious initiative to provide electricity to 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. This mission combines increased infrastructure investments with comprehensive policy reforms across the entire electricity supply chain. With nearly 600 million Africans lacking access to electricity—representing 83% of the global energy deficit—the need for urgent action is clear.
Summit Objectives
The summit will bring together African heads of state, government leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, civil society organizations, and academics.
Key objectives include securing political commitment, mobilizing private sector financing, and fast-tracking critical policy measures. The event will also highlight the unveiling of National Energy Compacts by several countries, outlining ambitious targets and reforms tailored to their unique contexts.
Transforming Africa’s Energy Sector
The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit is a crucial platform for collaboration and commitment. It will drive economic growth, improve livelihoods, and enhance the quality of life for millions of Africans. By transforming the region’s energy sector, the summit aims to make reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy accessible to all, thereby unlocking Africa’s full development potential.
Global Impact
The success of Mission 300 will not only benefit Africa but also contribute significantly to global efforts to address energy access disparities. As the continent moves closer to achieving universal electrification, it sets a powerful example for other regions facing similar challenges.
The summit in Tanzania marks a significant step forward in this journey, emphasizing the importance of collective action and strategic partnerships in overcoming Africa’s energy challenges.
